did you know

the sunrise lies next to you in bed
careful not to stir and pull you too
soon from your dreams

from the bright cusp of rest petaling the small
muscles of your face in her landscape of brilliant
hues

she waits like eternity in tickled anticipation of
your eyes’ first flutter open in the whirlpool of her
gaze

and there’s a slow morning breeze with
yearning arms at your waist crowning
gratitude for your breath’s unison in her

and quilts of morning dew curl meadows
of delight like legs entwined in savoring each
circulatory rush

there are mountains still trembling at the holy
kiss of your footsteps, waters rocking themselves
in the memory of your skin, trees tracing your way
back in tucked away places between rings

roots determined to hold you like fistfuls
of blushing earth, their stumbling chatter and
butterfly bellies, brimming and rapt in this communion
